Elementary My Dear Watson!

After seeing Guy Ritchie’s "Sherlock Holmes" movie last fall, my friends and I fell in love with the characters and the costumes. Being the creative nerds that we are, we set out with plans of constructing some of our favorite costumes from the film to wear at this Summer's Comic Con. We've still got a long way to go, but we're having a ton of fun in the process. I've been especially bit by the Sherlock Bug and have been doodling up quite a few sketches that I wanted to share. My friend Steph is making one of Irene Adler's traveling dresses, so I thought it would be fun to sketch up what I interpreted the dress to be from the DVD. This is what I came up with:

It was important, I felt, to do this in color so that the different layers could be better determined. I think that Steph will make a lovely Irene and I look forward to her final costume!

My boyfriend, Josh, and I are making Watson and Mary costumes. These next couple sketches were some I did of both or them, as well as a more detailed drawing of Mary's dress.

I'm sure there will be many more Sherlock Holmes inspired sketches to come. Hope that you enjoyed your visit. Please feel free to comment with any thoughts, critiques are suggestions. Have a lovely day!

  5. Hi Hannah, As many have said before me, your interpretation is so wonderful. They have inspired me to go as Irene Adler for this Halloween. I have the skirt mostly made at this point, yet as much as i would love the jacket also, it is turning out to be a little too difficult. Im just wondering what your thoughts are on what is under the jacket, so far all i can think of is a pink under shirt, but nothing i can think of is Adler like. If you have any thoughts id love to see them, or read them, it would be a great help.

    Thanks,
    Polgara.

  6. Polgara,

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I would LOVE to see pictures of your Irene costume when you are finished! Drop me an e-mail at hklees@gmail.com when you're done! As for what's under the jacket, I believe it's a black or navy lace top, perhaps with some sort of cami underneath it. There aren't any very good shots of it in the film, just this one: http://yfrog.com/eqk7yj I can send you the high res version if you e-mail me. ^_^ Also, you might be able to find something lacy at Forever 21 that could easily be dyed the right color for your costume. I really look forward ton seeing it all together! Hope this helped!
